Ran up here on Boxing Day 2024. Incredible views above the clouds with the early morning winter sun.
The way up from the car park is the way to go, the other way with the switchbacks is very rutted and muddy with fallen trees so not easy for everyone.
The tower wasn’t open unsurprisingly but the views were just as good.

Go the easy way up cos the other option is virtually vertical. Nice walk and lovely views when you get there.

A nice Folly with two approach paths, one very wild and not well kept, the other nice through the wood, a little steep but worth the climb. Very disappointed that the folly wasn’t open when we arrived, but a couple of ladies appeared to be given a private view !! Enthusiastically they told us what great views were to be had from the tower, but alas no offer to share with us. Felt like a poor show really, especially with the tourist sign proclaiming the tower is for all to enjoy.

A lovely walk up to the folly on a glorious day. The folly was open with a volunteer giving information and history. Very Interesting but the surrounding paths were very overgrown. We couldn't find the trig point.

Beautiful walks up either side of the hill, and the view is well worth it at the top. The tower is open on the last Sunday of each month.

Nice short walk, but I would avoid the steep route unless you are young, very agile, and adventurous. It's a difficult scramble, not a walk.

Great spot not far from Cravern arms. Only open to climb up the last Sunday of the month and bank holidays. Donations welcome.

Lovely up here! Recommend getting up here for sunrise! Allow 30min to climb from the road, very slippery and wet. Or, borrow a horse!
if we weren’t in a rush to leave for home today, I’d plan a long walking route after this at sunrise.

Parked at the bottom of the folly, and took the easier way up, really not steep at all (if you’re worried). Walked back down over the path at the front of the tower, for a bit of variety. Steep in parts, but ends up on the road, where you you turn right to return to the car park at the base of the folly. Fantastic views.

Was not open when i visited but i wasn't expecting it to be as you can check online and theres also a board at the bottom with the opening times for 2022 on it.
Only reason its not 5 stars is because its open so little. It would be nice for it to be open on saturdays when most people are out and about on days out and etc.
However it is a very nice walk up and around the area. Nice and quiet.

Of all the random towers on top of hills in the middle of nowhere I have encountered, this is in the top 10. Do not take the steep climb up to it, its seriously undersold and becomes cliff like at the very top.

A great little walk, even if you take route direct,(1/5steep) some good information and history at the top, is open once a month so always worth being there when it is....

No folly this but an applaudable asset for generations past, present and still to come - a bit like Christmas really. What foresight the good Mr Flounders had and he never 'quaked' at the challenge. Only slight challenge for us today is the climb up the steel steps inside the tower that transport us to the viewing area at the top, which slopes and could be slippery when wet. Great views and imagined views on a cloudy winter's day. Best to check opening times on the website as the tower is only opened for one or two days each month. Let's hear it for the good egg, Mr Flounders 👏

One man's folly is another man's viewing platform. On a clear day, it's worth the a visit for the all round sights of Shropshire's AONB.
